Since 1957, Hurst has been manufacturing, and responsible for the installation of retrofit and new construction of the highest quality Hurricane Shutters Systems and other Storm Protection and Mitigation Products. These include some thirteen (13) Miami-Dade County, Florida, Building Code Compliance Office Product Control Notices of Acceptance and Approvals of Hurst’s Patented, (These U.S. Letters Patent) Patent Pending and Proprietary Shutters Systems for Roll-Ups (Downs), Clear Maxi Roll Ups, Folding Accordions, Storm Panels, Bahamas and Colonial shutters. We also have available a Miami-Dade Product Approved Aluminum Overhead Canopy.

In addition, and of particular business importance is that Hurst has received Product Approvals from the State of Texas for all of its Hurricane Shutter Systems as being in full compliance with the new state of Texas Building Code. Further, Hurst has also received five (5) Product Acceptances and Approvals for compliance with the Standard Building Code of the Standard Building Code Congress International, the SBCCI.

All of HURST’S Hurricane Shutters Systems are state of the art in development, design, engineering, and testing. Each Product Approved system contains unique advanced features representing the latest and best in technology. This permits Hurst to provide its appropriate shutter system and product to specifically meet the client’s budgets and requirements. Research and Development, “R & D”, is constantly ongoing.

The Hurst Miami-Dade County Product Approved Hurricane Shutters Systems, with their overall superiority’s and flexibility of use, are extremely cost effect. Hurst is the actual direct manufacturer and strictly esthetically acceptable products available in the market place Hurst manufacturers and aluminum flood and storm surge barrier system, which is engineered and fabricated for the site specific required application

Hurst is a dealer distributor for, and installs, the hurricane building protection products under the name of Exeter “Storm Shield Barriers” and also the Phoenix “Sureguard Hurricane Barriers”. They are each a part of our expansive line and arsenal of multi-varied hurricane protection products. Both the Exeter and the SureGuard is a perforated 14-gauge galvanealed steel panel in an extruded aluminum frame having the same concept, but with different design criteria, parameters, flexibility and applications. They each have Miami-Dade County Product Approvals. We provide either or both, of these products as the particular project job dictates.

Hurst is one of only several Vendors-Contractors pre approved and pre qualified by Miami-Dade County to supply and install Hurricane Shutters and Products for Miami-Dade’s Works and projects. This is under an open-ended Purchase Order-Contract between Hurst and Miami-Dade, with new work ongoing and continuous.

The President of Hurst, Frank Cornelius, is the designer of the U.S. Patented and Miami-Dade Product Approved unique HI-TECH Accordion Folding Shutter system. The Hi-Tech is extremely light in weight, permits installation of any width, and the use of stainless steel roller-carriage provides for effortless opening and closing. The Hi-Tech does not require any troublesome locking rods. It is the most “user friendly” Accordion Shutter available. The Hi-Tech Shutter has also received the coveted, Product Approval from the SBCCI. Mr. Cornelius and Maggie Garmendia, Executive Vice President & C.E.O. of Hurst, are the founders and principals of the shutter industry’s Hi-Tech Shutter Group, Inc., Association which is approved and authorized by Miami-Dade County as an official Shutter Association, with in excess of forty (40) shutter companies as active members.
